Dry Ice Blasting

What is dry ice blasting? It's a method of stripping and cleaning surfaces with pellets of solid carbon dioxide (CO2) that are propelled at supersonic velocities.

Why clean with dry ice blasting? Because it requires ...

  • less cleanup
  • less time
  • less labor-intensive effort
  • no cool-down
  • no disassembly
  • no equipment relocation
  • no equipment drainage
Dry ice blasting also is...
  • non-polluting
  • non-corrosive
  • non-conductive
  • non-explosive
  • almost 100%  sterile
  • able to inhibit bacterial growth by sanitizing 75% as it disinfects

When dry ice pellets impact the blasted area, the CO2 instantly sublimates into a gas - its natural state. This creates a compression tension wave: The gas expands within milliseconds to almost 800 times the volume of the pellet from which it sublimated. A series of micro-explosions thus occurs at the impact point. The punctual shock - also known as "fracking" - combines with the air stream velocity and the surface's decreasing temperature to make the surface coating brittle and break it up. As the molecular bond of the coating, or contaminant, decreases, it simply pops off from the inside out.
